Askew Reading Series (July 13th features)

C-RICH is a Chicano poet of our time who shares a range of intimate life experiences and perspectives. The Los Angeles native was born into poverty and all its struggles. But the early chapters of his life enabled him to compile three books of poetry (available at amazon.com) in which he shares his insights, inspires, and motivates. We must not give up, not quit, for we are never alone in the struggle. He speaks from the streets and shares his own taste of unequal treatment sparking thoughts in the minds of listeners.

Poetry's grande dame Dori Marler, Los Angeles
DORI MARLER reads from her upcoming collection of poetry, Walk Out Backwards. This versatile grande dame of poetry and spoken word performance recounts a life of growing up in Pennsylvania, moving to New York City to become a big pen buyer for a large department store chain's female fashion line, and making it all the way to the West Coast for a journey of discovery, sexual hijinks of the era, and finally finding true love. When her son passes from AIDS, it inspires her to activism and art. Her work has been featured by the San Fernando Valley Arts Center, and she was previously co-host of Expression Poetry Reading in Glendale with James Maverick.
